Class 12 student dies by suicide in Paro

On 15th November, 2024, Paro police received a case of suicide initially reported by the doctor on duty when an 18-year-old deceased was brought to the hospital.

The investigation team visited the place of occurrence and learnt that the deceased was found dead hanging in his room. The deceased was studying in grade 12.

During the examination of the body which was conducted in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, it revealed a ligature mark on the neck and no other external injuries.  Rigor mortis was in an early stage.  

The deceased’s father revealed to the police that his son has never been involved in such attempts and was generally a well-behaved individual.  Police have ruled out foul play.

The deceased body was handed over to his parents after completing the formalities.

As per the statistics from Royal Bhutan Police, this year there were 88 cases related to suicide and in the year 2023 there were 97 related cases. 

Health professionals advise that thoughts of wanting to die by suicide is a mental health condition for which there is cure, including counselling and medication. The help line number is 1010 and 112 for anyone having such thoughts.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police shared that after talking to parents and teachers the cause of the suicide in still unknown.
