First Batch of Volunteers Return Home

The first batch of medical relief team consisting of 26 volunteers arrived in the country on 12th May 2015. Cabinet Secretary Mr. Kinzang Wangdi, Secretary of Ministry of Health Dr. Dorji Wangchuk, and Zimpon Wongma Tashi Penjore, Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon received the team at the Paro International Airport.

The Chair of the Multi Sectorial Team – Bhutan4Nepal hosted a lunch reception to welcome back the Bhutanese volunteers, who have done His Majesty the King and their country proud.

Bhutan4Nepalwould extended their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Druk Air for their generosity and services.

The relief team treated around 2,000 people and did around 200 surgeries during its stay in Nepal helping earthquake victims.

The team is beginning to pull out in phases, now that the urgent emergency has been taken care of. This was in accordance with the meeting that Bhutan and other foreign teams had with Nepal government.

The hospital staff, community members, and district health officials came to the Bhutanese camp to express their gratitude to the team, now that the Team is preparing to leave. The Nepal health officials and people expressed heartfelt thanks to His Majesty The King and people of Bhutan for this timely help. They noted that after the teams arrival there has been no mortality, and that the team served with endless endurance and goodwill for the people of Nepal.
