Her Majesty graces Tarayana fair

Tarayana Foundation celebrated its fifteenth Foundation day at the Tarayana Park in the capital on Friday with the theme “Tarayana since 2003: 15 Years of Service from the Heart”. The event was graced by Her Majesty The Queen Mother Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, HRH Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, and other high ranking officials from various ministries and agencies.

Speaking at the event Her Majesty The Queen Mother Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck said, “Let me start from the beginning, more than 20 years I started my journey into rural Bhutan as a patron of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment. Chime Pedoy and Chhimmy Pem accompanied me. As we travelled from village to village, I began to adopt the weakest of the senior citizens by giving them a monthly stipend. I thought it was important to honor our parents first.”

Her Majesty The Queen Mother Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, President and Founder of Tarayana felicitated Aum Chime Paden Wangdi, Secretary General of the Foundation for her dedication and selfless service to the vulnerable and poor, and awarded her with the President’s Medal.

“We would like to acknowledge and appreciate Chime’s service- thank you Chime on behlf of all the communities and the people who have benefitted from your hard work, and on my own behalf. Remember Chime, there is more to be done in realizing the national goal of a prosperous and blessed life for every Bhutanese citizen,” said Her Majesty the Queen Mother Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck.

53 community members from 12 Dzongkhags- Haa, Paro, Samtse, Sarpang, Pemagatshel, Trongsa, Tsirang, Wangdue Phodrang, Mongar, Lhuentse, Trashigang and Zhemgang are participating in the fair by displaying a wide range of local products which are native to their dzongkhag. Members of the Recycle Waste Product of Thimphu also displayed their products transformed creatively out of waste in the stalls and the other product ranges from handicrafts to pottery and

Tarayana Foundation was founded by Her Majesty The Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck and was formally launched on 4th May 2003 and is a registered Civil Society Organization.
