While in Samtse His Majesty the King granted an audience to the dzongkhag and local government officials of Samtse and also met with the RBA personnel in Samtse.
Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen met with the army wives who also offered a traditional tshokchhang to Their Majesties.
In the afternoon, His Majesty granted separate audiences to the students and faculty of the Samtse College of Education.
Speaking to the students, His Majesty said that 2013 was an important year for Bhutan and that there was a lot of work to be done. He said it was essential to ensure that everyone over the age of 18 participated in democracy and the election process. “Apathy is dangerous,” His Majesty said. However, he added that we must all be careful not to create differences and divisions in the society because of politics.
His Majesty told the trainee teachers that they have been entrusted with great power. “Imagine the number of students that will pass through your classrooms in your careers as teachers. You have the great power to influence them and make a difference in their lives. You must think about what kind of values you want to impart to these students.”
His Majesty said that even little things teachers may or may not do might make the difference between success and failure of students in their lives.
His Majesty told the trainees that they should remember that “you simply cannot give what you don’t have,” and therefore, as teachers, they must always keep learning throughout their lives, if they intend to be good teachers. He said that the trainees should be teachers only if their true passion is teaching. “If you don’t feel that way, you must find another way to serve the country, because as teachers, you owe your students your best”.
He said, “I will always support teachers throughout my reign. I will give you more importance and more recognition than any other sector, because you are going to make the greatest difference to the future of our country”.
His Majesty the King also visited the College of Science and Technology (CST) in Kharbandi and granted an audience to the faculty and students of the college.His Majesty reminded the students to take full advantage of the opportunity to acquire the right skills, competence and wisdom for a successful future. His Majesty was accompanied by Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen.
