His Majesty The King celebrated His 34th birth anniversary in Punakha with thousands of people from Punakha and Laya, who had gathered in Thangzona, next to the magnificent Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang Dzong.
In the morning, His Holiness The Je Khenpo received His Majesty at the Dzong and offered Kusung Thukten Mendrel.
His Majesty visited the sacred Marchen Lhakhang of the Dzong to offer prayers. His Majesty also offered prayers and lit a butterlamp before the Zhabdrung Thongdroel in the Dzong courtyard.
The members of the Zhung Dratshang, the Chief Justice, Ministers, government and dzongkhag officials, and elected representatives of the people were gathered at the courtyard to offer their wishes to His Majesty.
A game of archery and a cultural programme were held at Thangzona. The people offered Jachang, an offering
of tea, wine and traditional snacks, to His Majesty. His Majesty, along with Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, spent the day meeting and talking to the people who were there to offer their wishes to His Majesty. His Majesty granted a tokha to the people.
In the evening, His Majesty was received at the Lingkana Palace in Thimphu by the Prime Minister, representatives of the Taxi Drivers Association, vegetable vendors, Desuups, and youth who offered their wishes for His Majesty’s birthday.
