A 20-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree in a forest in Tshowom gewog in Wangdue Phodrang on the morning of March 26. On that tragic morning, at around 9 am, the deceased had gone to collect firewood from the forest.
The deceased had used a nylon rope to hang herself around the neck. The body was found hanging about 500 meters away in the forest near her house, and was spotted by a female cow herder.
Many of the people whom the deceased was known to were shocked to learn about the incident. Some of the people described her as being very hard working and a lively person. The victim was uneducated, and was helping her parents at home. She was unmarried.
The cause of the incident is not known and no external injuries were found on the body of the woman. The police have ruled out foul play and the body was handed over to the family members for the final rites.
