13 non-Bhutanese arrested for involvement in prostitution

Phuentsholing police apprehended 13 non-Bhutanese, age range between 19 to 25 years for involvement in prostitution from a hotel and beauty parlor in three separate instances. The first was on 21 September, the second was on 26 September and the third on 10 October.

Police said that, they were arrested from hotels and parlors with a tip off. Of the 13 people, 9 were women while four were men. Eight women arrested were prostitutes, one woman is a parlor manager, 2 men were pimps and two men were the customers.

Police said that, the two customers came in the country as a tourist. Police also said that, of 8 prostitutes, 5 women had come in the country from nearby border area for this purpose while the rest three were working in one of the parlors.

“During the course of investigation, we found condoms in the room inside the said parlor”, police said.

Meanwhile, it was also learned that there is another pimp who is still at large and that the person was trying to bring in prostitutes from different places for this purpose into the country. Further police said that, they have sensitized and informed the owners of the parlors and hotels about the issue and its consequences.

All the thirteen’s are under Phuentsholing police custody for further investigation.
