The Ministry of Health (MoH) and Essilor International will launch a partnership to provide quality eye care services in the country with an objective to eradicate poor vision. This partnership has been possible due to the guidance of Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother Ashi Kesang Choeden Wangchuck.
Essilor will be providing 400,000 pair of eye glasses for free to the MoH which will be distributed to all Bhutanese citizens in need.
In addition, Essilor will also help in strengthening the capacity of health professionals on vision care through the help of Essilors globally successful training programmes and tools. Research studies related to eye care and providing eye equipment to the hospitals in the country are also key areas of support. Advocacy and awareness program on eye care will also be supported.
To carry out the partnership, a ‘Letter of Intent’ (LoI) was signed between the MoH and Essilor on 7th December.
It was signed between Dr. Ugen Dophu, Secretary, MoH, RGoB and Mr. Hubert Sagnieres, Chairman and CEO of Essilor International in presence of Hon’ble Health Minister Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo.
During the same event, Essilor International also signed a LoI with the Zhung Dratshang (Central Monastic Body) for collaboration in eye care.
