The Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) will begin intensive training on inclusive education in January 2026 for teachers from 50 inclusive schools nationwide.
Sharing the details, Education Minister, Yeezang De Thapa, said, “About 200 teachers will receive three-week training covering key areas such as inclusive education concepts, development of adaptation and accommodation strategies, intervention strategies, screening and educational assessment tools, development of Individualised Education Plans and the referral processes.”
The training is designed to strengthen teachers’ ability to develop adapted and specialised learning materials that respond to the diverse needs of children with special needs.
Lyonpo Yeezang De Thapa said the program will eventually be extended to general teachers across the country so that inclusive practices can be applied in every school.
To further support inclusive learning environments, assistive devices and pre-vocational equipment are being supplied through the ADB-JSPR project.
Inclusive schools have also received adapted chairs and tables developed and produced by the Jigme Namgyal Wangchuck Super FabLab under DHI.
Recruitment and placement of inclusive education teachers is underway with support from HRD and the RCSC.
Lyonpo said, “Fifteen teachers have been selected to pursue a Master’s in Inclusive Education at the Paro College of Education, while two teachers will undertake Master’s studies in Australia under the Australian Awards Scholarship 2026.”
Lyonpo said that the inclusive ECCD training package, developed in collaboration with Save the Children, is also being finalised. This initiative aims to strengthen inclusive practices from early childhood, laying the foundation for a more inclusive education system.
