A minor girl was found dead by hanging at her residence in Samtse on 12th October, 2026.
According to sources in Samtse, the girl was a victim of sexual molestation, an incident that occurred a day before her death.
Sources said that on 11th October, 2026, while the girl was at home without any elderly family members present, a male relative allegedly attempted to sexually molest her.
When her parents returned home, the girl reportedly told them about the incident. The parents then attempted to contact the relative to discuss the matter but received no response, following which they informed the police.
Sources said the incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the relative was arrested that same night after the police were informed.
One source said that the girl attended school and sat for her examination on Monday, the day of her death. After returning home, she carried out her usual household chores, including feeding the cow, cooking and cleaning.
However, when her parents later stepped out for some work, they returned to find their daughter dead by hanging in an outdoor kitchen.
The incident was immediately reported to the police, and medical officials were also present at the scene.
Another source said the death was believed to have occurred at around 7:30pm, while the body was found at around 8:40pm.
The source further said that the police have been involved from the initial incident and are aware of the case details and allegations. However, they believe that the alleged offence involved is either attempted rape, child molestation or sexual harassment.
Sources said the families involved, including the alleged suspect and the victim’s family, were provided counselling by the gewog following the incident.
The Bhutanese contacted the police, who said that no details could be provided as the case was currently under investigation.
Further details are expected to be available once the investigation is complete.
