A win and a loss each for PDP and DPT in Paro

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) laid claims on a constituency each in Paro.

PDP candidate Ugyen Tshering lost to the former Economic Affairs Minister, the DPT candidate from the Lamgong-Wangchang constituency, Khandu Wangchuk.

Khandu Wangchuk secured 3,758 votes, of which 316 were from postal ballots while 3,442 came from the EVM (electronic voting machine) and Ugyen Tshering secured 2,924, of which 342 were from postal ballots and 2,582 were from EVM. The total registered voters for the constituency stands at 8,787.

In the other constituency, Dogar-Shaba, PDP’s candidate Kezang Wangmo won with 3,571 votes, of which 390 were from postal ballots and 3,181 from EVM, while DPT’s Chencho Dorji secured 2,385 votes with his 185 postal ballots and 2,200 EVM votes.

The total registered voters for the constituency stands at 7,606.

During primary elections, the voter turnout was 67.5% for the dzongkhag. There is a 10% increase for the general elections, whereby it stands at 77%.
