Actor Sangay Tsheltrim with Chimi Dema and her baby daughter

Chimi Dema thanks Actor Sangay Tsheltrim for life-changing support on Bhutan’s Got Talent

Well known actor and former Mr. Bhutan and Mr. Asia, Sangay Tsheltrim, during a recent episode of Bhutan’s Got Talent, won the hearts of audiences through his compassionate act on screen.

During the live telecast of the show, the actor revealed that he had watched audition clips featuring Chimi Dema, a contestant on Bhutan’s Got Talent carrying her baby and singing.

He said he was profoundly moved by her courage and determination as she bravely appeared for her audition with her baby on stage.

He called Chimi Dema and her baby daughter onto the stage, where he made a heartfelt announcement: “I want to provide Nu 10,000 per month for the child and also support her education expenses until she graduates.” His generous gesture not only moved Chimi Dema and the audience but also showed his compassion and generosity towards those in need.

The paper reached out to Chimi Dema as the show had to proceed, leaving her without the opportunity to express her gratitude at that moment.

Chimi explained that her lifelong passion for music drove her decision to audition for Bhutan’s Got Talent.

Despite her deep interest, she faced the challenge of balancing her education alongside her musical aspirations and prioritizing her studies meant she had to postpone participating in reality shows until it aligned with her journey.

After completing her high school education, Chimi joined work in Paro. However, she had to leave her job after giving birth to her child.

Chimi said, “I have become a mother, and I felt that if I didn’t seize this opportunity, I would regret it for the rest of my life. Despite there being many singing shows, I see Bhutan’s Got Talent as unique compared to others. That’s why I decided to audition for it.”

Chimi mentioned that her husband is the sole breadwinner in their family, owning a furniture shop. She explained, “We have monthly expenses of Nu 15,000, including Nu 5,000 for our house rent and Nu 10,000 for the furniture rental. Sometimes, my husband’s earnings from the furniture business are not sufficient to cover all our expenses.”

Chimi further clarified, “People might assume we can sustain ourselves solely on my husband’s furniture income, but that’s not the case. We also have to pay rent for the furniture shop. His earnings depend on the orders he receives, and while we do earn from those orders, during times of fewer orders, our income is significantly impacted.”

She mentioned that she and her family are going through tough financial times, and the actor’s promise to support her child’s education means a great deal to them.

Her commitment to her musical aspirations shines through despite the difficulties she faces.

“His gesture offers not just financial relief but also emotional support during  our challenging circumstances.”

Despite facing financial challenges, Chimi emphasized that her motivation for joining the show was not monetary. She stated, “My goal isn’t to join the show for money; it’s my passion for music that brought me here. Even if I hadn’t joined this show, I’ve always dreamed of composing and singing a song in the future.”

She mentioned that the actor advised her to contact the show organizer, Tashi P Dorji, who would facilitate communication with him and a finance officer in order to coordinate further support regarding her child’s education and other financial matters.

“Me and my family would like to thank Dasho Sangay for his immense support for my child’s education, especially considering that we do not come from a well-off background and have faced financial struggles from time to time,” said Chimi.

“During this turbulent period in my life, Dasho’s assistance has alleviated half of my worries.”
