Drug detainee reportedly dies by suicide inside Haa police detention

A 37-year-old man detained in connection with a drug case reportedly died by suicide inside the Haa police detention facility in the early hours of 16th December 2025.

Sources shared that the deceased had been under detention at the Haa police station for nearly two months.

The police did not respond to queries or efforts to contact them but a local government (LG) official said that the deceased was being held in a room shared with two other detainees, which had an attached toilet. The detainees were awake and talking until late at night before deciding to go to sleep around 3 am.

The LG official said that the incident had occurred at around 4:30 am.

As per the source, the incident came to light during a routine check carried out following a shift change. Police personnel on duty reportedly observed through the window that the detainee was not showing any signs of movement on his bed. After calling out his name and receiving no response, the officer alerted one of the roommates and asked him to check on the him.

Upon checking the bed, the roommate found it neatly arranged as though someone was sleeping under the blanket. However, no one was there.

The detainees were then asked to check the attached toilet, where the deceased was found dead.

Sources said the man had previously served a five-year prison sentence in another case and had been released about two years ago.
