Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa received an Audience with His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen at Tashichhodzong on 11 August 2026.
Her Imperial Highness was escorted to the dzong in traditional Chhipdrel procession, and received Audience with Their Majesties in the Golden Throne Room.
Their Majesties and Her Imperial Highness then offered a thousand butterlamps at the Grand Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong for the victims of the earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan on 28 July, and prayed for the full recovery of the affected communities.
Princess Akiko is on a visit to Bhutan on the invitation of Their Majesties. Bhutan and Japan commemorate 40 years of diplomatic ties this year.
