Only two of the eight gewogs in the south eastern district of Samdrup Jongkhar re-elected former gup candidates with the remaining gewogs choosing new faces as their gup.
The former gup of Wangphu gewog, Sangay Tenzin, secured another term with 719 votes, of which 113 were postal ballots. His opponent secured a total of 412 votes.
“My re-election proves that people are content with my service in the last five years,” he said.
Madhukar Subba from Pemathang gewog was also reelected as gup. He secured a total of 500 votes to beat the other two candidates.
“I am pleased with the overwhelming support and I promise to work much harder to make people happy,” Madhukar Subba said.
