India House Golf Tournament celebrate’s His Majesty The Fourth King’s birth anniversary

The annual ‘India House Golf Tournament 2016’ was organized at the India House Golf Course, Thimphu from November 1st to 5th November 2016 to commemorate the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King. Coinciding with the occasion of the Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty the King, a separate category for ‘Juniors’ was also held prior to that. A total of 195 golfers including 28 juniors (19 boys and 9 girls) registered for playing the tournament, making it an ‘unprecedented’ participation. The final round was played by 68 players, on 4th & 5th November 2016.

The tournament concluded with the prize distribution ceremony held on 6th November 2016 at the ‘India House’. Twenty two attractive prizes in cash and kind were distributed to the Senior  and Junior  category winners of the tournament. The overall Champion seniors received a new ‘KUV’ Car sponsored by Singye Agencies Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and  Minister for Foreign Affairs Damcho Dorji graced the prize distribution ceremony. Other distinguished guests among the over 250 strong gathering included the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, senior civilian and military officials, Ambassador of Bangladesh, entire golfing fraternity of Bhutan, other eminent sports (Rio Olympics, Tour of the Dragon, Snowman Runs, International Marathons etc) personalities, sponsors and the corporate sector.

Welcoming the guests, Secretary of the ‘India House Golf Club’ and Counsellor Raghav Bhatnagar conveyed appreciation for the enthusiastic response from the golfing community and commended the golfers on their sporting spirit. He reiterated the significance of the ‘week-long festivity of the tournament’, in terms of it being a unique and tangible dimension, of the close bonds of friendship and camaraderie, which is shared closely between the people and institutions of Bhutan and India.

The Counsellor also extended thanks to the valued sponsors and Tournament Committee Members.

His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck then graced the function by distributing the ‘Awards’ for the Tournament. ‘Champion’ of the Tournament was Karma Pila Rangdol who received ‘KUV’ Car sponsored by Singye Agencies Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. ‘Gross Category’ was won by Dechen Ugyen.  ‘Overall Gross Runner up’ was Santosh Tamang  Lama and ‘Net Runners Up’ was Norbu L Tshering.  The ‘Day 1 Gross’ was won by Tshendra Dorji and the ‘Day 2 Gross’ by Tshering Topgyal (TT). Col. Tshering Dorji had the ‘Nearest to Pin’. ‘Maximum Birdies’ was won by Ganesh Sarki and ‘Longest Drive’ by Naman Thapa. ‘Day 1 Net Winner’ was  Major Tshering. ‘Day 2 Net Winner’ was Major Gyemba Dukpa and ‘Hole in One’ was won by Ugyen Dorji. The ‘Veteran Champions’ title went to Major (Retd.) Hemant Gurung.

In the competition for the ‘Juniors’ (22ndOct 2016), the ‘Winner Girls’ was Jamyang Choden and ‘First Runner Up’ was Chimi Choden. Among boys, the ‘Winner’ was Dechen Wangdi and ‘Runner Up’ was Tsering Tenzin. ‘Nearest to Pin’ went to Rinzin Dorji, ‘Maximum Birdies’ to Dechen Dema and ‘Longest Drive’ to Prakash Mongar. ‘Youngest Participant’ prizes went to Tshering Yangchen amongst Girls and to Bikash Biswa amongst boys.

The prize distribution function was followed by an musical performance by the band “Yangchen & The Able” led by Ms. Yangchen Dukpa and dinner.
