Man caught for stealing batteries to sell to taxi driver

Phuentsholing police apprehended a 25 year old man from Dorokha, Samtse after he was caught red handed while stealing a vehicle battery from one of the stores in Phuntsholing on 12 September during day time.

A 28 year old man is a manager of the said store. He caught the suspect stealing the battery from their store and in addition, it was found that, three batteries worth of Nu 18,478 were missing from the store.

After the arrest of the suspect, he confessed to the crime. As per the statement of the suspect to police, the suspect stated that the stolen battery had been sold to one of the taxi drivers at Nu 2,000. However, it was found that, the taxi driver paid only Nu 500 as advance.

Meanwhile, while questioning the taxi driver in police station, he confessed to have brought said battery at Nu 2,000. The suspect further had damaged the CCTV recording system.

The suspect is under detention while the taxi driver was arrested for receiving the stolen property; however, he was released on surety. Police have seized the battery from the taxi driver.
