The construction of a marketing shed along the Punakha to Thimphu highway in Toep gewog will be completed and handed over by June. Plans to build five market sheds are in the gewog plan and another five are sponsored by the Department of Agriculture and Marketing Cooperatives (DAMC). “The market shed is going to have a positive impact on the villagers who are completely relying upon the sale of cash crops,” said Gewog Administration Officer Sherub Zangmo. Each shed is being built at a cost of Nu 88,000 but sources said the amount is not sufficient. Toep gewog has five chiwogs with 18 villages. The gewog is one the of most accessible gewogs in the country because it is located along the Punakha to Thimphu highway.

It is good of the DAMC to support our farmers with such constructions. It helps both the buyers and the sellers alike and most importantly we can sell our farm produce and minimize the import. We also expect some more such sheds to be constructed in other feasible gewogs. Thank you DAMC.
