Northeast Green Summit applauds Bhutan

Northeast (NE) Green Summit was held from 1 to 3 November to promote environmental protection and responsible tourism.

NE Green Summit 2019 aimed to promote environmental protection and responsible tourism by bringing together stakeholders to discuss, share experiences and propose solutions to some of the unique challenges being faced in the region, with the underlying theme of Green Northeast, Clean Northeast.

It also intends to showcase the successful conservation stories of national parks in Assam including the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park. It focuses on the region’s potential for cultural tourism with emphasis on elements inspired by nature in and around its tourist destinations.

NE Green Summit also saw discussion on rural livelihood through green jobs, responsible tourism in NE, biotechnology interventions on sustainable development and utilization of bio-resources for environmental management and livelihood generations in the northeast region.

The three-day summit saw participants and key stakeholders from the state government, the Indian and foreign private sector and Indian PSUs.

Conservationists and prominent leaders of Assam applauded Bhutan strong conservation and sustainable tourism approach and recommended India to follow Bhutan in its conservation and tourism practices.
