A 40-year-old man from Yadi, Mongar, died on the spot after the Jumbo truck he was driving veered off the road near Takti and fell 300 metres below the road.
The incident took place at around three in the morning on April 10. The deceased was travelling from Gomtu to Thimphu along with friend who was driving another Jumbo. According to the statement given to police by the deceased’s friend, they started their journey from Gomtu with a cement load on 9 April at around 2:30 in the afternoon.
He also said that when they reached Jumja, Gedu, they stopped for beer and on reaching Takti at around two in the morning, he decided to spend the night in his vehicle while the deceased decided to continue to Thimphu.
Police suspect sleep driving as the probable cause of accident. The deceased is survived by his wife and two sons aged 14 and 10. The body of the deceased was handed over to his wife on 11 April.
