Search operations are continuing in Thimphu and Paro following two separate incidents in which a girl and a man reportedly jumped from bridges on consecutive days. They are suspected to be cases of death by suicide.
In Thimphu, a search and rescue operation is underway for a girl who reportedly jumped from Lungtenzampa Bridge at around 6pm on 8 September 2026.
According to official sources, a police personnel passing by the bridge on his motorcycle saw the girl on the bridge moments before the incident.
The police personnel later confirmed that she was likely the person who jumped from the bridge.
The girl, who is a school student, had reportedly left her phone and an umbrella on the bridge.
Police and rescue personnel are continuing efforts to locate her.
A separate incident was reported in Paro a day earlier, on 7 September 2026, when a man in his 50s reportedly jumped from Bondey Bridge at around 6:30am.
Police and Desuups are continuing the search operation to locate the man’s body.
