Seven candidates from the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT), which includes the party’s President and Vice-President, have replaced seven People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates.

PDP candidate Sonam Penjor of Thrimshing-Kangpar constituency has been replaced by former DNT President Aum Dorji Choden, Kezang Wangmo of Mongar has been replaced by former DNT Vice-President Jigme Zangpo, Dorji Dukpa of Kanglung-Samkhar is replaced by Norbu Wangchuk, Gongsar Karma Chhopel of Radhi-Sakteng has been replaced by Kinley Dorji, Sherub Wangdi of Bardo-Trong  is replaced by Lekey Dorji, Sangay Dorji of Panbang constituency is replaced by Tshering and Dr. Lobzang Dorji of Jomotshangkha-Martshala has been replaced by Pelzang Wangchuk.

Dr. Lobzang Dorji of Jomotshangkha-Martshala constituency said, “I am the full-fledged candidate of PDP, but due to minor problems, I had to give up as candidate. I had resigned from civil service in order to contribute much more in tangible ways to Tsa Wa Sum, and I have resigned late from civil service and our party forgot to update the list of the new candidates, we were not registered at that time, but I will be working with the PDP depending upon the result.”

He added saying, “I am disappointed because I had every chance of winning from my constituency, and thanks to my entire supporters for the primary round, don’t be disappointed, I will see in future and don’t lose hope, take it positively.”

Gongsar Karma Chhopel of Radhi-Sakteng constituency said, “Our party has chosen the best ones, they will win for us and bring profile of the east up and we should not divide the society, it will not be good if there is division of the society that is east and west.”

“We are far from getting good candidates and ECB must make rules bendable in order to get good candidates,” he added

Dorji Drukpa of Kanglung Samkhar constituency said, “I had resigned voluntarily from my party and the substitute candidate is much better than me, he has a good relationship at grass root and with the highest level of people, I was not very known to the people of my constituency. Our parties have replaced candidates in order to make our party stronger for the general round of elections.”

Sangay Dorji of Panbang constituency said, “When the primary result was declared, I said I am giving up as a candidate, I thought that there were only few supporters from the people of my constituency and it should not have an impact on party in the future.”

He added saying, “I will be supporting PDP forever, and I will always work with the PDP. My replacement is young, dynamic, much better than me and my supporters should support my party.”
