Tiktoker had been attacked by a group of girls at a party before her suicide

The family of a 20-year-old woman who was viral on Tiktok and died by suicide in October 2024, is grieving and calling for justice.

The victim’s mother shared that her daughter had been mentally healthy until a viral video of her caused her great distress.

What exacerbated matters was that on the night of the suicide, the young woman went with a friend to a Halloween party and was reportedly attacked by a group of women in the bathroom of the party hall, according to the family.

After the attack at the party around 3 AM, the ex-boyfriend came to their house and informed the family that their daughter was all alone somewhere at Taba. Upon reaching at the location, the deceased was found all agitated and stressed.

The mother had no idea that her daughter had been attacked at the time.

Upon asking what had happened, the deceased had asked her mother not to worry and that she just needed some alone time to think, and that she would solve everything. She requested her mother to go back home and assured that she would be back in a while.

At around 4 am the deceased came back home, much to the relief of the family.

The mother said that after the incident, she had disclosed to her elder sister that a problem occurred at the party and that she suspected that the girls who attacked her might have been sent by her ex-boyfriend.

The sister had then contacted the ex-boyfriend upon which he requested that he had nothing to do with the incident and to not report it to the police.

“I was relaxed that my daughter came back. I inquired with her what happened, but she refused to share anything and she said that she wanted to rest. I told her not to close the door and went to my room thinking she might have slept. Somehow, something kept bothering me, and I went to check on her finding her to have inflicted minor self-harm. My worries grew upon seeing such steps my daughter took and I scolded her not to do so. However, she told me it was nothing serious and went to sleep. I never imaged that my daughter would commit so serious an act. At around the time of the incident I was doing my house chores and a knock came at our door. A Police team rushed inside saying my daughter has hung herself in her room.”

The deceased’s mother shared that her daughter was normal until the viral video of her fight on TikTok live with the other girl went viral.

She said, “After the incident, she was often seen troubled.”

She was already stressed on some matters related to her college as she was planning to switch to some other courses. The deceased’s mother said that the decision of her daughter ending her life is directly connected to the last incident of her getting beaten up.

“Later, I learnt that my daughter was beaten up in the toilet by a group of girls. She had bruises on her chest and thighs.”

She shared that as her last word, her daughter had voice messaged to her ex- boyfriend on his messenger that if he doesn’t come to see her, it may be his last time to hear from her.

The mother added, “My daughter was a responsible child and took care of all our daily needs including paying house rents. She was so close with me that she would share everything openly about her experience and life. She was good in studies and never had any issues.”

Further, she shared that after her daughter completed higher studies, she and her ex-boyfriend had applied for marriage certificate with plans to go abroad. However, their relationship didn’t work out and both moved on. 

The family of four consisting of the mother, sister, sister’s husband, including the deceased, were staying together.

RBP arrests a 37-year-old man and 2 girls in connection to the case

 Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) detained a 37-year-old man in connection to the death of the 20-year-old Tiktoker. He was the first TikTok account holder who was involved in recording the live Tiktok fight and posting contents of the deceased engaging in the fight with the other girl.

The post then went viral on other social media platforms and gained popularity.

RBP shared that he will face charges of online harassment, publishing and transmitting obscene communication, and engaging in lewd and lascivious conduct in connection with the case.

The arrest was made on 27th November 2024 and the case remains under investigation.  

The suspect used an anonymous TikTok account to live-record the public conversation between the deceased and other party, which was later uploaded to his TikTok account.

RBP shared that they were able to trace the owner of the anonymous account with the assistance from TikTok headquarter in Singapore. 

Additionally, 2 girls from the party incident who attacked the victim have been detained.

To track down the involvement of cyberbullying, a court order was issued and the deceased’s social media accounts was thoroughly checked. Almost two months back, the deceased had texted her friend’s expressing concerns over her viral video gaining popularity and to report the account holders.

Police shared that they couldn’t track down all the account holders who had posted the videos since it has been circulating around. Rather, they tracked the social media account from where the video initially was posted and went viral. The account was identified on TikTok, however, it was operated through a fake profile.

Police are investigating several anonymous social media accounts holders who have circulated the posts.
