Two drivers apprehended for tobacco smuggling

Phuentsholing police have detained a taxi driver and truck driver for smuggling tobacco products into the country.

Acting on a tip off police apprehended the taxi driver, 46, on the evening on 28 September in Phuentsholing with two bags of tobacco. The taxi driver, from Gairigaun, Tsirang, had already loaded four bags of contraband into a Jumbo truck parked at Rabten workshop, which was to be taken to Wangdue.

From the Jumbo truck, police seized 4000 packets of Biri and 2280 packets of Navla chewing tobacco. The driver, 34, of a Jumbo truck is from Tshendaygang, Dagana.
