The Phuntsholing Sports Association (PSA) office in collaboration with Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) has organised a youth oriented winter coaching camp cum tournament for under sixteen boys and girls which includes games like football, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton and basketball.
The camp started from 20th of December 2015 and will end on 24th of January this year. So far the camp is done with football which started on 20th of December till 5th of January with a total of 150 boys participating.
The General Secretary of Phuntsholing Sports Association said, “We actually kept the option open for both boys and girls but sadly not even a single girl turned up for football”.
He said, “The main objective is to engage our youth of both genders in sport activities meaningfully during their long winter vacation holidays.”
He also said that it also serves as a platform to showcase the youth’s hidden talent from the grass root level. It would also help in training the potential future sport icons who can participate in the international circuit levels games through the respective National Sport Federations under the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
So far, the tournaments are done with football, lawn tennis and table tennis with about a total of three hundred boys and girls.
The ongoing badminton tournament started on 13th of January this week and will end on the 22.nd Basketball will be started today from the 16th of January till 24th of January.
For badminton there were sixty participants but none turned up for basketball. However the general secretary said, “The information was passed in schools and through the media, so I’m sure youths will turn up at last moment as some who register don’t turn up and those who don’t register turn up at the last moment after getting the information as it has been same case with tournaments so far”
