The government has given a 6 month extension to the contract of the 42 contract employees of the Royal Education Council who were
recently asked to leave with the merger of the REC with the Ministry of Education.
The PM said that the government in the meantime would look for work for the 42 people and see where they can be accommodated.
He said that the REC civil servants could be accommodated back into the government with the merger but REC had hired many people on contract and they could not be taken into the civil service.
The PM said that as the Chairman of the REC he has called for a meeting soon to discuss the issue and find out a way.
Earlier there was hue and cry by those who were being let go by the government.
Following the controversy and politicization of the B.Ed issue the government wants to avoid another jobs controversy.
