Bhutan’s largest multi-purpose hall is here

Need a venue for playing sports, or holding a large academic gathering, or meetings, fairs or shows? You might want to check out the multi-purpose hall at the Royal Institute of Management (RIM).

The hall, the first of its kind, is the biggest sporting complex in the country and has the capacity to house 2,500 people at a time. It was completed in time with a cost of Nu 61.3mn funded by India.

“The hall is a standing testimony of our mutual cooperation and friendship between India and Bhutan,” said the Minister of Labour and Human Resources and also the Chairman, RIM Board of Directors, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo.

“The hall can be used for several activities like in sports as well as used for holding national events, meeting, seminars, convention, convocation, job fairs, education fairs, trade fair, exhibitions, state shows, and orientation, and for examination purposes,” he added.

“This is going to be one of the most important symbols of Indo-Bhutan friendship,” gracing the event, the Minister of Home and Cultural Affairs, Damchoe Dorji said.

He added that RIM is expanding its management to meet with the emerging human resources requirement of the country, both in the private and public sector. He said the

institute requires an adequate infrastructure and the hall will create a learning environment and improve the quality of education.

“ It is expected that management institutions must be ahead in terms of ideas, expertise, facilities and technologies,” Lyonpo Damchoe Dorji said.

Deputy Chief of Mission, Indian Embassy, Shubhdarshini Tripathi, said, “India is a partner of Bhutan in its socio-economic development as well as in building capacity. It is a part of entire process.”

“The hall will help both in academic and physical education. We will certainly make the best use of the facilities in achieving the institute’s mission,” Director of RIM, Karma Tshering said.

RIM is a premier management institute in Bhutan. It offers courses like Masters in Business Management, Public Administration and Management in partnership with University of Canberra, Australia, and Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration, Financial Management, and National Law. RIM also offers diploma courses in National Law, Financial Management, and Information Management System.

The institute has 32 faculty members, 82 staff and 282 trainees. India has partnered for development and construction of RIM and its components like e-centered library, vehicles, furniture, etc.
