CCTV camera helps police to arrest a mugger involved in two mugging cases

Thimphu police, with a help of CCTV camera in the town, arrested a person for two mugging cases. The incidents both took place on 18 October. Police arrested a 28-year-old ex-convict who is from Wangdue on 19 October.

On 18 October at around 9:15 PM, a man lodged a complaint to Thimphu police stating that two unknown men mugged him while walking on a street just opposite to the Druk Shopping Complex, Thimphu.

The two men had followed him and one caught and held him from behind while the other man snatched the victim’s two mobile phones and wallet containing Nu 3,500 along with some Thai Bhat and ATM card.

Similarly, on the same day at around 10:50 PM, police received another similar complaint where another complainant stated that two unknown men mugged him. Police said that, as per the complainant’s statement, he was drinking in a bar near Ama’s Karaoke.

He said the two men had asked him for his mobile phone to make a call. Thereby, the men went out to make a call and when the victim followed them, they beat him up and ran away with the mobile phone.

The arrested suspect is found to be involved in both the mugging cases. Police have recovered one mobile phone and some ATM cards in the suspect’s possession. Thimphu police are yet to arrest the second suspect.

Thimphu police said that they have got 763 cases of mobile snatching making it the highest registered crime in 2018.
