Colleges in Bhutan are in full swing to celebrate and dedicate some special events for the 60th birth anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Colleges like Jigme Namgyal Engineering College (JNEC) are planning to have a various list of event which will all be conducted during the three days of national celebration on 9th, 10th and 11th of November.
The programs will start with a prayer session by a college faculty members and students, followed by various sports events like football matches, caterpillar races, tug of war between faculty and students and a quiz on His Majesty the Fourth King both in English and Dzongkha.
A joint program with Royal Bhutan Army (RBA), Dewathang community and various schools in Dewathang will include cultural programs and traditional games amongst the Dewathang community. “But of all the activities we have conducted so far the major dedication is the introduction of the degree program and the change of the name” said the college director, Dr. Andu Drukpa.
Similarly the College of Science and technology is going to have a joint celebration with the Chukhha Dzongkhag which will include cultural programs and recitation of prayers apart from the various other programs done in the college.
Sherubtse College this year has a long list of activities to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. The Centre for Population and Social Research at Sherubtse College, with support from UNFPA country office in Bhutan organized the 3rd International Seminar on Population and Development on the theme “Linking
PICSA in collaboration with Sherubtse College launched the Mobile Phone Cinema (MPC) festival on May 2, 2015 at Sherubtse College.
The College in collaboration with Project Dantak organized an inter-school/ Institute level Science Exhibition on the theme ‘Connecting Science and Society’ on May 2, 2015 at Sherubtse College. The primary objective of the exhibition was to showcase the talent and creativity of the students while the larger objective was to fulfill the cherished ideas of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
Also on May 2, 2015, His Excellency Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk inaugurated the Namgyel Phodrang (the Royal Exhibit). The Namgyel Phodrang is a final year student’s project and is dedicated to the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
On 17th April 2015, Sherubtse Theater Ensemble organized ‘Visual Celebration of English Writers’, One Act Play Competition amongst English Combinations initiated. The College also constructed a 12 feet Portrait of the Fourth King in front of the College Clock Tower.
He said, “Apart from the above activities, the College will also conduct some activities as part of the celebration before 11th November”
The activities include publishing of Pictorial History of Sherubtse College to commemorate the Birth Anniversary, a new water fountain by the school of physical science and publishing the second edition of Gems and Jewels ‘Collection of speeches of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.’
The 60th Birth Anniversary will be celebrated at Sherubtse College along with Trashigang Dzongkhag and all schools under Trashigang.
