A 29 year-old, non-national, man who tried to bribe police constables at the main gate was arrested and detained by Phuentsholing police on January 5.
The suspect was trying to enter Phuentsholing town with a cardboard box filled with seven Chinese brand and four old repaired mobile phones. The suspect went back to Jaigaon, India to fetch the documents for the products after police asked for it.
The suspect later returned with a bill and Nu 500 enclosed in it. He was trying to bribe the constables at the gate with the money. The suspect was immediately arrested.
Following an investigation, the case was forwarded to the Phuentsholing district court on
January 8. Police said that the suspect confessed to the crime of trying to bribe the constables. The mobile phones were to be delivered to one of his clients living in Phuentsholing.
The suspect owns a mobile phone shop in Jaigaon and is from Bihar district.
Meanwhile, on December 30, the Chief of Police rewarded a month’s salary bonus of Nu 10,280 as the Soelrey of His Majesty the King to Peljab Jigme Norzang from Samdrup Jongkhar, currently stationed at Tanalum checkpost for his display of honesty in reporting an act of bribery.
A taxi driver had tried to bribe Peljab Jigme with Nu 4,000 after he was caught with tobacco products on December 25, last year. The tobacco products seized were worth Nu 50,000.
