With 22 years of experience under the education department as school principal and teacher, Rinzin Dorji, 48, was voted-in as the National Council (NC) member from Punakha Dzongkhag with 3,449 votes. He was nominated from Toedwang Gewog.
“I should be very thankful to the people of Punakha. Now it is my duty to serve the nation and people. I hope I can fulfill their wishes,” Rinzin said.
Rinzin Dorji has promised to strengthen the Rule of Law and the national security and sovereignty. “I will also ensure that the voices of the people are heard.”
He was a Project Director with BAOWE before he decided to contest in the upcoming elections.
Rinzin Dorji has a Masters in Administration and Management.
The other contender, Namgay Dorji is an actor, a singer and much younger than the winner in terms of age. He secured 2,764 votes.
“I wouldn’t be able to tell exactly what I would be prioritizing at this time, as I need to go according to the plans and policies of the NC,” the NC-elect Rinzin said.
A total of 6,213 voters turned up on poll day of which 809 was postal ballots. Punakha Dzongkhag has a total of 14,641 registered voters.
