Thimphu police has retrieved a body of 24-year-old man, a private worker from the Wangchu river in Gepthang, a 1.5 km walk towards Soe-Naro from Cheri Monastery Bazam. They got a report of a drowning on 28th June at around 6 PM.
The original group was seven including two females and they gone for picnic. Police said that, five men crossed the river while two of them swum back when the deceased drowned.
Though the friends initially got hold of the deceased’s hand, they failed to save him and even the JCB operator who was nearby tried to save him twice, but he failed both the times.
Police also said that, by the time the rescue team reached the scene, it was already dark whereby they had to withdraw and they deployed early on the morning of 29th June retrieving the body at around 10:30 AM.
Police said that, the deceased must have drowned due to a whirl pool. The police notified the public to avoid swimming in the river in summer as it gets swollen. Forensics ruled out foul play.
