Despite being only two years old, the Chimi & Dema Memorial Taekwondo Festival event has seen remarkable growth and popularity, as this year there are a total of 300 children participating from Paro, Phuentsholing, Samtse, Thimphu and Trongsa.
In total there are 17 clubs participating from various dzongkhags, 166 children have come from dzongkhags outside of Thimphu and local schools taking part in the festival are Dr. Tobgyel’s School, Early Learning Center, Jigme Namgyel Lower Secondary School and Loseling Middle Secondary School.
The Chimi & Dema Memorial Taekwondo Festival is geared toward children who are under the age of 17 and is aimed at encouraging sportsmanship and serves as a platform for children and coaches alike to display their skills and talent.
Since its inception in 2012, the Chimi & Dema Memorial Taekwondo Festival has been a yearly collaboration between the Bhutan Taekwondo Federation and RSA Pvt. Limited. The Bhutan Taekwondo Federation has been in charge of organizing the event every year while RSA Pvt. Ltd. has supported the BTF as the sponsor.
The festival has the honor of being named after the sponsor’s paternal and maternal late grandmothers.
