The Bhutanese Leading the way.
Upon Royal Command of His Majesty The King, Bhutan has contributed INR. 100 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund of Nepal in the wake of the devastating floods of 26 August, which resulted in the tragic loss of many lives and widespread damage.
The contribution is a gesture of solidarity and friendship with the Government and people of Nepal at this difficult time and reflects the warm and longstanding relations between Bhutan and Nepal.
Maj. Gen. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Nepal, handed over the cheque to Dr. Surendra Thapa, Charge d’ Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi.
The Royal Government and people of Bhutan extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster. Bhutan stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and conveys its sincere wishes for the swift recovery and rehabilitation of the affected communities.
After the contribution of Bhutan, the news spread in the Nepalese media and social media with many Nepalese thanking Bhutan for the gesture.
Some even said that when compared by the size of a country’s economy Bhutan’s contribution is comparatively the largest.
This is not the first time that Bhutan has done this, as a some years ago during the great earthquake in Nepal in 2015 Bhutan similarly contributed USD 1 mn at His Majesty’s command and even sent a medical and relief team to a remote area.
