His Majesty The King visited Uttar Pradesh, India, from February 3-4, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to experience the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, His Majesty traveled to Prayagraj and took part in the Maha Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. The Maha Kumbh, the world’s largest spiritual gathering, holds exceptional significance this year due to a rare celestial alignment that occurs once every 144 years.

During the visit, His Majesty also offered prayers at the sacred Akshyavata, the “indestructible Banyan tree,” and the Hanuman Temple.

His Majesty expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Modi, the Government of India, and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the warm hospitality and special arrangements for the Royal Visit to Lucknow and Prayagraj.

Hinduism and Buddhism have deep connections, and His Majesty’s visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela, carried great significance. The visit further strengthens the historic bonds of friendship that Bhutan and India share.
