Man detained for rape he claims was consensual

The Zhemgang police detained 33-year old man after he was accused of raping a 19-year old girl in her house on the afternoon of 16 April.

The incident took place in Zhemgang and the complaint was filed by the victim’s father who during the time of incident was out for work. The father is a carpenter by profession.

On the afternoon of 16 April, the suspect had gone to the victim’s shop for a drink (beer) and it is learnt both the parents were not at home.

Sources said that the victim had gone inside one of the rooms to tidy her room and the suspect followed the victim where they supposedly had sex. The girl reportedly told her mother at a later hour of the day about the incident and the father informed the police.

The matter was reported at around 3:00 pm to the police and the suspect was arrested from the crime scene.

In his defense, the suspect told the police that it was a consensual act and not rape as alleged by the victim’s father.

Contradicting his statement the victim refused to accept the whole act to be consensual. It is learnt that no physical injuries were noticed on both the victim and suspect’s body.

Meanwhile, police are waiting for the medical report from the hospital.

The victim who looks after a grocery shop is a class vii school-dropout while the suspect is a farmer and a divorcee.
