The world premier event celebrated coinciding with the Environment Day, conferred a young Bhutanese entrepreneur the most deserving Global Environment Entrepreneur of the Year. The award is the outstanding Environmental Stewardship which recognizes the achievements by successful young entrepreneurs.
The award was bestowed to the chief executive officer of Greener Way Karma Yonten for his outstanding and invaluable contributions in environmental conservations for the benefit of Bhutan and the world at large.
Bhutan’s first private waste management firm Greener Way was started by Karma Yonten and team, and has been recognized for its leading non-profit initiative present in 40 countries.
“I am deeply honored to be representing Bhutan in receiving this award,” Karma Yonten said.
He added that His Majesty’s constant encouragement to the youth to strive to be the best, not only at the national level but also in the international arena was his source of inspiration. Further, he said that he is very fortunate to be an example for fellow citizens especially to those who are on their entrepreneurial journey.
According to him, it is the high-profile competition and winning such award garners international media attention, which will help not only advertise the enterprise, but also help in popularizing Bhutan.
Some shared that winning such a coveted award indicates the Bhutanese youth are equally brilliant and have outstanding business ideas.
This will be the second time that a Bhutanese entrepreneur has won a prestigious global award. Bhuddha Tyre Rethreading’s Deki Wangmo in 2011 brought home a similar award.
The winner is expected to fly to London in September this year to receive the award.
