In a vibrant celebration of the enduring partnership between Bhutan and India, Project Dantak of the Border Roads Organization hosted the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Quiz 2026 in the capital.
The event, held as a prelude to Project Dantak’s 66th Raising Day on 24th April, brought together the bright young minds of Thimphu to honor the close people-to-people ties that define the two nations.
The occasion was graced by Lyonpo Yeezang De Thapa, the Minister of Education and Skill Development, who served as the Chief Guest.
Lyonpo underscored the vital importance of youth engagement and knowledge-sharing, describing the quiz as a meaningful platform for students to connect with their shared histories and future aspirations.
Indian Ambassador Sandeep Arya also attended the event and commended Project Dantak’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through community-focused initiatives.
The competition saw intense but friendly rivalry among six participating teams, each comprising three students from Motithang HSS, Dechencholing HSS, Babesa HSS, Pelkhil School, Yangchenphug HSS, and the Bhutan Football Federation Academy.
Under the engaging guidance of distinguished quizmaster Col Vembu Shankar, the team from Motithang HSS emerged as the winners.
They were followed by Yangchenphug HSS as the first runner-up and Dechencholing HSS as the second runner-up. Outstanding performers were awarded trophies, certificates, and special prizes in recognition of their teamwork and competitive spirit.
Beyond the competition, the event highlighted Bhutan’s cultural heritage through a unique collaboration with the Department of Posts, which sponsored specially curated philatelic albums for the participants.
This initiative aimed to promote philately as an educational hobby among the youth. Brig Rohit Gupta, Chief Engineer of Project Dantak, expressed his gratitude to the Department of Education and other supporters, noting that such events reflect Dantak’s mission to foster deeper community engagement that goes beyond infrastructure development.
Since its establishment in 1961, Project Dantak has remained a cornerstone of the India-Bhutan friendship, playing a pivotal role in the country’s socio-economic growth.
This quiz stands as a testament to the mutual respect and shared values of the two countries, inspiring the younger generation to carry this legacy of friendship forward.
