BOB kicks of its 50th year celebrations

The Bank of Bhutan, the country’s oldest financial institution, unveiled its Golden Jubilee logo on November 23, kick starting a year-long celebration to mark 50 years of service to the nation.

“BOB has played a pivotal role in powering the progress of the nation by enabling its customers to embrace their dreams and fulfill their aspirations through its wide array of technologically advanced products and customer centered services for the past five decades,” a BOB official said. “On its Golden jubilee, the bank invites the people of Bhutan to join in celebrating 50 years of embracing happiness.”

She said the 50 years logo imbibes the essence of this momentous milestone. The form of the 5 and 0 is such that they appear to be locked in an embrace, while vivid festive masks infuse the logo with a distinct celebratory vibe. The colour palette has been inspired by the hues of the flag of our country which symbolise that the bank’s achievement is not only its own but the whole country’s.”

She also mentioned that the theme embracing happiness will involve activities centered around trust, environment, modernization and technology, inclusive growth and aspiration, employment and entrepreneurship.

“The milestone of Golden Jubilee is important not just for the bank but also for the whole country,” BOB’s Chief Executive Officer, Pema N. Nadik, said.

The yearlong celebration starting in January 2018 is aimed to benefit employees, clients and the community. It will continue until May 2019.

The BOB is the oldest and largest bank in the kingdom with a presence in all dzongkhags through a network of 31 branches and 16 extension offices.

The bank also has the largest network of 82 ATMs throughout the country. BOB is the only bank in the kingdom with primary membership of Visa and MasterCard and is the only bank issuing Visa branded Credit Cards for corporate and individuals.

It is the first bank to start Internet Banking, Tele-Banking, Sunday Banking, Mobile Banking, Agency Banking and Payment Gateway services in the Kingdom.

The bank this year launched Agency Banking services to take financial services to every corner of the country and as of now it has 200 BOB Connect agents across the country.

The BoB is a crucial agency that takes the lead in various government and Central Bank initiatives like loan interest reduction etc encouraging others to follow suit. It is also the preferred destination of the government agencies and corporations to park their funds.
