Haa-Samtse secondary National highway set for completion by 2027

The improvement of the Haa-Samtse Secondary National Highway is progressing steadily, with completion expected by 2027.

Lyonpo Chandra Bdr Gurung, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport during the 9th sitting of National Assembly shared that the improvement of Haa-Samtse secondary National Highway project is being undertaken in phases, with some stretches already completed.

Currently, the section from Namchokhola to Phutsuna which is about 7 km is under construction and shall be completed by July 2025.

The remaining segment, stretching from Latsona to Phutsuna about 14km is prioritized under the 13th Five Year Plan and is expected to be finished by mid-2027.

For the benefit of farmers along the road and to enhance trade between the southern and western dzongkhags, it is imperative for a double lane and widening of Samtse-Haa Secondary National Highway.

The Minister highlighted the importance of this road upgrade, emphasizing its contribution to the livelihoods of farmers along the route with tourism potentials and the enhancement of trade between the southern and western dzongkhags.

Further he emphasized that the Haa-Samtse secondary National Highway can also be used as alternative highway, during the times of emergencies in case of issues with Phuentsholing-Thimphu highway.
