India celebrates its 68th Independence Day

The Indian flag hoisting ceremony and the Indian National Anthem followed by patrotic songs reveberating in air added to the commemorative spirit of India’s 68th Independence Day celebration held at the Embassy of India, Thimphu on August 15.

In the morning, Ambassador Gautam Bambawale read out the message of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee’s Address to the Nation delievered on the eve of the Independence Day in India.

After which the Gyalpoi Zimpon, His Majesty’s Secretariat, offered Tashi Khaddar to the Indian Ambassador.

The Foreign Secretary, Cabinet Secretary and dignitaries from the government of Bhutan and Indian community members were present at the celebration.

In the evening, a world renowned Odissi Troupe led by Pompi Paul performed at the India House Auditorium. The event was attended by members from the Royal Family and dignitaries from the government, international organisations and Indian community.
