During the 17th session of the National Council, the members will be deliberating on issues related to delays in implementation of Acts and also on issues related to illegal migration under the heading of policy review issues.
Sangay Khandu, Chairperson of the Legislative Committee and National Councilor of Samtse said, ‘There are some Acts which are passed by Parliament but are yet to be implemented’.
Tshering Dorji, Deputy Chairperson of National Council said once an Act is passed it requires regulation and from the preliminary observation it takes around one to five years for those regulations to come in.
Examples of Acts that exist but are not implemented are like the Water Act, Waste Management Act etc.
So far, since 2008, altogether the former members of the national council and the present members of the National Council has implemented more than 70 Acts in the country.
On illegal immigration Sangay Khandu said that they would stress on the policymaking part, Act, rules and regulations and would thoroughly discuss on the issue of illegal immigration in the country.
