The First JCB Operator Training Center in Thimphu

An Operator Training Centre to train earthmover operators, enhance safety at the worksite and meet the shortage of skilled machine operators in the construction and mining sector, opened this week in Thimphu.

Regulated by the ministry of work and human settlement (MoWHS) the JCB Backhoe Operator Training Center (OTC) took more than six months to regularize as per the national standards regulated by ministry of labour and human resources (MoLHR).

Currently, the center has 20 trainees registered through the labour ministry who will be trained in both theory and practice and will be attached with construction sites and projects for operation of backhoe loaders. After the completion of a two-month program, the trainees will be assessed in collaboration with MoLHR and RSTA for certification and issuing of license respectively.

The training module also includes maintenance and safety aspects. “The geographical nature of Bhutan is all mountains and terrains,” HP Phuyel, the General Manager of Ugen Earthmovers, said.

“The establishment of this program would support us and the general public, to provide JCB trained operators in the market, generate & supplement employment opportunity in the market and add value of the dealership and support our customers,” said the CEO of UEM, Ugen Norbu Jamyang.  “UEM has already spent huge amount of money on establishment of this training centre with world class facilities such as class room, recreation hall, where training is e-learning based. We have backhoe loaders purely dedicated for OTC with experienced operator to disseminate hands on training”

“After supplying over 500 plus of JCB Backhoe loaders in the country, it wa learnt that many of the customers do not have trained and certified operators and we are hopeful that this sort of training is going to benefit our customers at large,” he said. The training centre has been a long term goal of Ugen Earth Movers which deals with construction & mining equipment.
