Chukha Dzongkhag prepares to celebrate His Majesty’s Birth Anniversary

To mark His Majesty’s birth anniversary, Chukha Dzongkhag is one of the 20 Dzongkhags to celebrate the special occasion on 21st February in Phuentsholing Sports Association (PSA) ground, Phuentsholing.

All the schools under Phuentsholing Thromde will be performing on the day including Chumithang School in Pasakha which is not under Thromde will also take part in the celebration.

The day is also to celebrate 50th year of Indo-Bhutan diplomatic ties, said Drungpa Karma Wangdi of Phuentsholing Drungkhag, Chukha. He said that, in the celebration, there will also be a few cultural programs from counterparts in Jaigaon, India.

He said that, there will be a Lion mask dance performance which is the most special item of the celebration.

“All these other items were organized by the Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA) whose help we sought to make the event a success from their side”, he added.

The theme of the 50th Indo-Bhutan diplomatic ties celebration is people-to-people interaction which is why they also are emphasizing more participation and programs from India.

The day will begin with Karmi Tongchey (lighting of butter lamps) and for this they have invited guests from both sides of the border.

“After that all the programs will be carried out accordingly like in previous years, just that the difference is participation from counterparts”, he added.

He also said that, they will be celebrating all the three days (21, 22 and 23 February) in collaboration with the Indian counterparts. There will be a night shows and cultural programs in the middle of the town from 6 PM to 10 PM. “There will be dancers from both countries”, he added.

Apart from that, he said, “In the same area, we are also showcasing a food stalls, 10 stalls from Bhutan and 10 stalls from India and through this we hope that people will interact with each other for three days to further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.”

He said thanked the Phuentsholing Thromde, BCCI, ABI, BIFA and Dzongkhag for their support.
