The Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) said it is shocked to hear that Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) has denied having approached DNT candidates. At the same time, DNT is disheartened and alarmed because DPT has questioned the party’s integrity and the morale, and of being accused of violating the Constitution of Bhutan.
The DPT refuted any instances of the party or its candidates having approached DNT candidates during a press conference last Friday.
In a press conference of their own, DNT members said their supporters and voters could make a difference in many of the constituencies and for this reason both DPT and PDP have approached the party for the candidates last Friday.
It was made open to everyone at the conference that a three-member DPT team had approached and formally requested three DNT candidates to join their party, while two former ministers of DPT called the DNT Phuentsholing candidates till last Friday afternoon to join DPT.
“Therefore, DPT leadership is lying to the people of Bhutan,” said DNT representatives.
The DNT said they informed both DPT and PDP that as a political party, the decision cannot be made for the candidates and their participation in the general election, as formal coalition is not permissible under the laws of the country.
During the primary elections, DNT received support of 17% of the total national votes, and won in the two constituencies of Thrimshing in Trashigang and Phuntsholing in Chukha.
The party thanked all the citizens of the nation for being part of the election process and gave assurance of strengthening the party for its return in the 2018 elections.
