Police in Chengmari, Samtse, have arrested a 67-year-old man who killed his wife at around 2:15 in the morning of November 9. The incident was reported to police by the chiwog tshogpa (village representative) about an hour later.
Police said the suspect from Punakha was arrested the same day and in his statement said that he and wife were under the influence of alcohol. But he did not state why the incident took place or how the fight broke out.
Police said that, during the incident, their son-in-law was sleeping in the other room and was not aware of the incident. The suspect had used an axe to hit his wife who died of multiple injuries.
