Chukha Dzongkhag has four candidates participating in the upcoming National Council election. Of the four candidates, three are new candidates while one is an incumbent candidate.
All the four candidates have pledged and emphasized on the importance of reviewing the existing laws and policies which would benefit public and country as a whole. Formulating the new legislation aiming to create value to the public which does not inflict with the empowerment and rights.
Among them is an incumbent candidate Sangay Dorji from Bongo gewog who served NC for the past five years. He did Masters in Educational management and Administration with a work experience of thirteen years as a Principal. He also has served as resource person for various educational programs, has experiences in private organization and served as a committee member in various programs at the National Level.
Given his experience as a parliamentarian, he pledged to safeguard the security of the constitution and uphold the vision of The King. He also has pledged to focus on youths related issues, advocate multi-pronged interventions to address social inequalities and be responsive to citizens need.
He said he will call the attention of Ministers to any matter of urgent public importance, question the government about any action, policy or personal conducts and ensure successful implementation of the remaining 12th FYP Development Activities and 13th FYP activities.
Hem Prasad Rai is a 36-year-old candidate from Phuentsholing says pledges are not important, but result matters. He holds Bachelors Degree in Language and Culture Studies, Taktse, Trongsa and MSc Ecology and Environment, Nalanda University, India.
He does not have many pledges as like other candidates. However, he pledged to have equal policies for equal development and review polices and laws.
Damcho Gyeltshen from Loggchina gewog holds a Master of Business Administration from Stamford International University, Thailand and Bachelor of Commerce from Royal Thimphu College.
Before joining politics, he served as CEO at NHAC/ NIWI, was an operating officer and worked as administrative assistant in a private company. In addition, he has worked as a non-formal education instructor at RGOB.
Competing against his opponent candidates, he pledged to plan and seek expedient strategies for delivering fairness and equity in public service through upholding the vibrant principle of GNH. He also pledges to pay homage and work vigorously with fairness, justice and perseverance and to formulate the new legislation to create value for the public.
A 32-year-old Tandin Wangchuk is the youngest candidate contesting in NC election. He represents Phuentsholing Throm. He holds Bachelor of Commerce from Bhawanipur Education Society College, University of Calcutta, India.
Prior to joining the politics, he has a 10 years of work experience in the construction industry.
Competing against his three candidates, he commits to empower youths with better policies and engaging them in nation building activities, review and create law according to the public’s need.
In addition, knowing the importance of farming, he commits to review agriculture policies to benefit the farming community and promote eco friendly tourism in Chukha. He promised to provide support and facilitate the local government for better public service and serve the nation with full dedication.
