A 17-year-old student of class 10 from Dechencholing Higher Secondary School was found dead at her residence in Thimphu on 12th June 2026.
According to sources, the student had been absent from her midterm examination on the same day, prompting an internal check by the school.
During this process, it was later learned that she had died at her residence by suicide.
The case was reported to the South Thimphu Police Station (STPS) at around 1:01 pm on 12th June.
Police sources said that the death had occurred between 9 pm on 11th June and 12:40 pm on 12th June.
The body was found inside her room where she was residing at a family member’s house in Thimphu.
The case was registered as an unnatural death by the Royal Bhutan Police. The victim is suspected to have been suffering from depression.
After the recent circulation of the viral violent videos online of Lungtenzampa school, rumors were circulating that an individual involved had been found dead.
This reporter confirmed from police sources that no such incident has been reported, and they might be referring to this case which has nothing to do with the viral videos.
