More than 700 civil service positions will be available for aspiring candidates through the upcoming Bhutan Civil Service Examination (BCSE), according to the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC).
The RCSC states that there are 711 career opportunities in the professional and management category through the BCSE.
The vacancies will be filled through a merit-based selection process, with candidates required to undergo academic assessment, a written examination, and viva voce interviews.
Successful candidates will be selected and appointed based on their overall performance and ranking in the examination process.
However, the RCSC stated that in the event of a tie in the final results of the Main Examination (ME) for a single vacancy or the last available vacancy, the candidate with the higher score in the written examination will be selected for the position.
The RCSC stated, “If there is a need to further break the tie in the written examination scores, the candidate with the higher viva voce score will be selected.”
Compared to last year, the number of vacancies has increased slightly, with 51 more positions announced this year.
Among the vacancies announced, there are 60 positions in Administrative Services, 35 in Finance Services, 60 for Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) graduates, and 150 for Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) graduates across primary, secondary, and Dzongkha streams.
The highest number of vacancies is in the Technical Services category, with 406 positions available. This accounts for almost half of the total available vacancies.
Under Technical Services, there are 45 position titles, with the highest number of vacancies in the clinical nurse category, which accounts for 111 positions.
Moreover, this year’s intake is 74 more slots than last year’s reprioritised 332 slots in the service.
Under Education Services, for PGDE graduates there are five fields of recruitment.
For PGDE graduates with a science background, there are 10 vacancies for Mathematics, and five vacancies each for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
For arts graduates, there is only one subject, Economics, with five vacancies.
In addition, there are 10 vacancies for Digital Technology and Innovation (IT). For B.Com graduates, there are five vacancies each for Accountancy and Commerce.
Meanwhile, under the general category, there are 10 slots for Guidance Counselling.
In this year’s intake, Education Services offers a total of 60 slots for PGDE graduates, which is 15 fewer than last year.
For Education Services under B.Ed graduates (primary, secondary, and Dzongkhag), there are 10 slots each for Dzongkha and Mathematics, 20 for Digital Technology and Innovation, 100 for Science and Technology, and 10 for Science.
In total, 150 slots are available, this is eight fewer than in 2025.
Eligible candidates will have to sit for the Preliminary Examination (PE) and if they meet the required minimum score, they will proceed to the ME.
The RCSC said, “The final selection and placement of BCSE candidates into the Civil Service shall be based on obtaining a minimum of 50 percent score in the ME; merit ranking of the ME results within the respective category; and the availability of vacancies.”
However, as reported by this paper, in conversation with the RCSC, the commission changed the benchmark for PE from 50 percent to 55 percent for last year’s candidates. To this, the RCSC said that PE cut-off point will mainly depend on number of vacancies and competition.
According to the RCSC, the PE is scheduled for 1st August 2026 while the ME will be held on 1st – 3rd October 2026.
