Sarpang Dzongkhag MP, Pema Tashi, asked a question to the Health Minister about the placement of 145 nurses who will be hired from India.
In response, Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk first mentioned that the Royal Civil Service Commission approved the recommendation not only based on the Ministry of Health’s proposal but also after conducting their research, which led to the approval of this recommendation.
Lyonpo said, “From the 145 health workers, 70 of them will be in service at JDWNRH, and as a health worker myself, I believe that mothers and children are very vulnerable. Therefore, the Ministry has decided to allocate the remaining (75) health workers to Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu.”
Lyonpo stated that this allocation is crucial because JDWNRH is a referral hospital visited by all the citizens of Bhutan. Therefore, assigning more health workers to JDWNRH is essential.
The other part of the question asked by MP Pema Tashi was about solutions to retain Bhutanese health workers.
Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk said that to retain more Bhutanese health workers, the intake for BSc nursing slots has been increased, and more students are being sent abroad to pursue this course.
